UAE- Sharjah Ruler appreciates AUS during graduation ceremony


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Since its establishment, American University of Sharjah (AUS) has been envisaged as an institution of excellence, said His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, ruler of Sharjah, and President of the AUS, on Saturday.

Shaikh Sultan was addressing the AUS Spring 2016 graduation ceremony held at the University City Hall on Saturday, attended by 547 undergraduate and graduate candidates.

Congratulating Class of Spring 2016, the Ruler of Sharjah said: "You are part of the university's mission of seeking excellence and achieving goals. I urge you to continue setting goals for yourself throughout your career, and to serve your nations using the academic and practical knowledge you have acquired at this university."

Shaikh Sultan also shared the university's plans to link its activities with the economic, cultural, scientific and industrial sectors of society.

"The AUS will help establish a culture of entrepreneurship and support the creation of a framework to enhance Sharjah's reputation as a leader in the field of innovation in the region.

"The university has also launched the AUS Interactive Trading Floor at the School of Business Administration, the first of its kind in the Mena region. The ITF is a sophisticated facility that incorporates live tools and software to extend theory into practice in a fast-paced, applied environment," added Shaikh Sultan.

"Sharjah has recently launched Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre (Sheraa), based at AUS, to further boost economic development in the emirate of Sharjah. The university has also launched a chair in family business, the first of its kind in the country, as a step towards becoming a recognised family business knowledge hub in the national, regional and international context."

On behalf of the Student Council and the graduating Class of 2016, Chancellor Bjorn Kjerfve presented Dr Shaikh Sultan with a portrait of His Highness overlaid with Arabic calligraphy created by design management student. Besides, outstanding students were felicitated during the ceremony.
