Armenia pursues deeper business ties with Iran

(MENAFN) Iran intends to gas exports to Armenia by five folds, it didn't officially confirm it, but there's a huge possibility, considering the fact that this increase will be in line with a related scheme to purchase electricity from Armenia.

Accordingly, both countries have sealed an agreement back in 2004 based on which the Iranian gas is used by Armenian power plants to generate electricity and in return, Armenia exports the electricity to the Islamic Republic.

Last August, Iran and Armenia closed a new deal for the construction of the third power transmission line which is expected to increase the volume of electricity exports from Armenia to Iran by 700 MW to touch an overall of 1,000 MW.

As far as gas exports are concerned, the Middle Eastern nation already ships out about one million cubic meters of natural gas to Armenia per day, and this volume will increase to as high as six million cubic meters per day.
