Homicide cases among near relatives on the rise

(MENAFN- Arab News) DAMMAM: A new phenomenon of homicide cases has recently appeared in Saudi society especially within family units. The reasons behind this emergence could include a range of psychological social behavioral emotional and legal problems.

Abdulrahman Al-Qarash a member at the National Family Safety Program said about this issue: 'All families face several problems from time to time; often the behaviors of one or some of the family members is different to that of the others causing serious problems in some cases.'
Regarding the reasons for committing homicide Al-Qarash said that they are varied and may involve the disintegration of family ties a lack of kinship and differences in opinions which if left to grow can be troublesome for the whole family leading to heinous crimes.
'Even though a person may be seeking revenge through their actions no one has a right to kill another regardless of the alleged reason behind it' Al-Qarash said. He added that the best way to get rid of such crimes in society is to turn people back to true religion.
One social consultant Khalid Al-Bishi said: 'Most crimes are committed by the young generation during what is known as their 'stage of recklessness'' explaining that homicide cases among relatives have a number of contributing factors behind them; perhaps the most prominent being that some problems among relatives are not solved quickly and reasonably which may result in disasters or serious misfortunes.
He further stated that dialogue is the most important solution to eliminate these crimes and the associated hatred that may be generated as a result of negligence among family members. In the same regard Nahar Al-Otaibi deputy dean of Community College in Huraymila said: 'Killing relatives is a result of a relapse in one's common sense and a defect in their mind. Therefore everyone who encourages or helps in the committing of a crime is a partner in it and is therefore similarly at fault.'
He said that this phenomenon requires several reforms and substantial changes at both the individual and community levels including the provision of a favorable environment of intellectual and social security to protect all families from extremist and fanatical ideas.
