Kuwait- Min. extols nation's development plans

Date:

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning and Development Hend Al-Sabeeh praised on Saturday the work being done by the Supreme Council for Planning and Development in meeting the national goals for growth and development.
She stressed in a press statement today the enormous importance the government was giving to development plans with particular attention to empowering the sector of the young in the nation's population.
She referred to the fact that the Supreme Council held last Thursday an open forum under the bannerline " the role of the youth in the nation's development plans," in which numerous government agencies and ministries and the private sector took part.
There was freewheeling dialogue in that forum in which all parties vented off their grievances, aspirations, and ideas regarding growth and development plans for the country in the short and medium terms, she said.
She further said more such airing out sessions such as that forum were needed where brainstorming would surely bring in fruitful results.
On his part and on the topic of identifying problems and obstacles facing today's youth in Kuwait, the assistant to the director of the Supreme Council, Bader Al-Refaei, noted that these problems did not stop at social requirements as marriage, housing, and employment but extended to getting a meaningful education worthy of the demands of the market place.
Concurring with that was member of The Public Authority for Manpower Bader Al-Fawzan who emphasized that the focus of any development plan should take into consideration the youth demographics in the country, the possibilities of the market place to hire the youth, and the role envisioned for the youth to concretely contribute to the nation's growth and development.
He wondered what really were the problems facing the youth in Kuwait, whether they were such things as drugs or peer violence or shunning the institution of marriage or whether they were economic ones like seeking a job or proper housing. He also noted that perhaps some of the problems facing the youth had to do with having much spare time and nothing to do or the lack of incentives to do the right thing.
He said currently Kuwaitis under the age of 15 were about 36 percent of the population, those under the age of 20, 47 percent and those under the age of 35, 71 percent.
He expected by 2030 that the number of Kuwaitis between the ages of 15 to 29 will be about half a million.
