Oman- Bank Muscat AIG join hands to host cybersecurity conference

Bank Muscat the flagship financial services provider in the sultanate in association with the leading global insurance company American International Group (AIG) is organising a conference titled 'Ensuring a Safer Cyber Environment' at the bank's head office on Wednesday.

Dr Hamad bin Salem al Rawahi executive president of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority will preside at the high-profile conference aimed at enhancing cooperation between the government and the private sectors in matters relating to preventing cybercrimes identifying the best global practices in work environment and benefiting from the expertise of relevant bodies.

Talal al Maamari chief executive officer of Omantel will deliver the keynote address at the conference which will also be addressed by Lord Jonathan Evans former head of the British Security Service and currently a non-executive director of HSBC and cybercrime experts from the Chatham House AIG and BAE Systems Applied Intelligence.

AbdulRazak Ali Issa chief executive Bank Muscat said 'Cybersecurity affects us all and Bank Muscat is proud to host this conference aimed at highlighting the best practices from across the world so as to help the financial services industry in Oman.

'At a time when cybercrimes are widespread the strengthening of cooperation and coordination among various government banking and financial institutions is vital to prevent and control crimes through the latest technological applications and exchange of expertise in this area.'

Data breaches cyber financial crimes and attacks on websites are occurring more frequently than ever. In this regard the conference assumes importance in spotlighting that the threats are no longer about others they are moving closer to the region.

The conference is designed to help organisations look at a holistic cybersecurity plan to include information sharing threat identification protection of assets and an effective cybercrime response plan for business recovery and resumption including a risk transfer plan of cybersecurity insurance.
