Saudi- Peace in South Asia
(MENAFN- Arab News) I read with interest the article 'Ensuring peace in S. Asia' (Sept. 7) by Seema Sengupta. It was a very balanced article and nobody could deny the importance of peace in South Asia particularly between the two countries India and Pakistan.
The reason behind the apparently never-ending animosity between the two nuclear neighbors is the wrong approach of our politicians.
Politicians on both sides of the border stoke tensions just to divert popular attention from their corrupt practices. When they start feeling that their corruption is about to be exposed they start spitting venom against the other side. South Asia has been blessed with huge resources. People of this region are very hard working and intelligent and they prove their mettle whenever given the chance. Indians Pakistanis Bangladeshis and Lankans etc are doing extremely well in other parts of the world particularly in the West. Unfortunately our talented people are not provided with opportunities to shine in their own countries.
I think it is high time people of South Asia rejected petty politics. We should learn from the experience of the European Union. In today's world interests of countries are interdependent. We cannot ignore our next-door neighbor and forge alliances with countries thousands of miles away. Khalid Hussain Jeddah
