10,000 people flee ammonia leaks from fertilizer plant in China
(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) More than 10,000 residents were evacuated from a city in southwestern China after ammonia leaked from a fertilizer plant, reports said Tuesday, according to dpa.
The toxic gas started to leak late Monday from a pipe operated by the
Chuanlong Chemical Company in a suburb of Nanchong city in
Sichuan province, the West China City Daily reported.
Local media footage showed heavy traffic jams as residents fled the
area in cars, motorcyles, bicycles and on foot.
Police and firefighters were able to control the leak and some
residents have returned home, news reports said Tuesday.
