India- Memon or Kalam
(MENAFN- Arab News) There has been much acrimony in the wake of India hanging Yakub Memon.
Anomalies were indeed there in the case leading up to Memon's execution yet instead of getting on nerves all those right-thinking people of the country both Muslims and Hindus would do well to exercise calm and patience. They must not forget the basic fact that India is a multi-faith nation representing all communities.
Minorities there enjoy better cordial relations with the members of the majority community than unfortunately Muslims in many countries who are killing each other.
When Memon was being hanged in Nagpur jail the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi often considered a radical Hindu leader was touching the feet of a Muslim Abdul Kalam to pay him final tributes in a southern city of Rameshwaram.
There we had a lesson which we chose to ignore. Raising oneself to the level of Kalam the former president will earn you respect in India. Any complicity overt or covert in incidents like Mumbai attack or 9/11 will have devastating effect not just on the person himself but his family his community and the whole nation.
This lesson is very important for the likes of Memon as to Hindu terrorists like Sadhvi Pragya who was found involved in the Samjhauta train blast.
