Saudi- Humanity's shame
(MENAFN- Arab News) This refers to the article 'Events of global shame.' (Aug. 2)
The writer has rightly reminded us of the genocides that occurred in history in the month of June like those of Bosnia and Rwanda. Such issues of global ramifications often put the powers that be and the international entities like UN in the dock for their questionable role.
This is a fact that UN has miserably failed in protecting citizens from the calamities either natural or man-made.
Yet we cannot shake it off for the sheer fact that it is the only place where the world leaders sit at least and discuss the problems of global significance.
UN doesn't have a fighting force and I don't think it can have one. Because even then it won't have the teeth to decide on a course of action.
As for the ongoing massacres in Syria the warring parties they would never like to come to a negotiating table. Nor would they back down and lay down arms.
I hope sort of coalition attacks on Syria rid the country of Bashar Assad and Daesh. That to my mind is the only option left.
Saudi Arabia is so far doing an excellent job by taking care of the millions of refugees fleeing the country. It is providing reliefs to the victims of the Syrian regime on a war-footing level. Or else it would have turned into another Rwanda.
But a permanent solution needs to be found to check the Bashar crimes. Unless it is done Syria will remain a symbol of degradation of humanity and failures of world leadership. Seraj Ahmad Alkhobar
