Jeddah Metro to have 46 stations
(MENAFN- Arab News) Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal has emphasized the need to develop metro-related industries in the region by asking international companies that win transport contracts to establish spare part factories.
The governor made this comment while chairing a meeting of the public transport project in Jeddah on Monday. 'We have to localize industries for public transport in Jeddah and Makkah' he told experts.
He said metro projects in the two cities offer opportunities to develop industries related to them.
Speaking about metro related projects the official said assembling and administration would create 500 jobs maintenance works 500 and manufacturing of the components of train cars 1500 jobs.
Jeddah will have three metro lines. The first line with a length of 67 km will have 22 stations; the 24 km second line will have 17 stations while the 17 km third line will have seven stations.
The public transport system in Jeddah will also have 816 buses operating services to 2950 stations inside the city.
The Cabinet has already approved the SR107 billion public transport projects in Makkah and Jeddah.
