(MENAFN- Arab News) An Asian maid has been arrested in Madinah for encouraging 45 housemaids to escape from their sponsors and then sheltering them with the intention of employing them during Ramadan.
She was arrested following several reports from citizens stating that their maids had run away. Police launched an investigation and an extensive search resulted in the arrest of a housemaid who herself had escaped from her employer and then begun sheltering other runaway maids in her home. The police raided her house and arrested 45 maids.
Col. Fahd Al-Ghanam spokesman of the Madinah Police said all of the runaway maids were of Asian descent.
Three Asian workers were also arrested for transporting the maids to the houses where they worked.
'The main accused has confessed that she was coordinating with the drivers and operating the maid network. All of them have been referred to relevant judicial authorities for further action' Al-Ghanam confirmed.
