Jordan, Palestine seal energy MoU
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Mohammed Hamid and the Head of the Palestinian Energy Authority on Monday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation in the field of energy and gas extraction.
The MoU will also expand cooperation in the fields of electricity, energy and renewable energy, exploratory drilling of oil and gas and exchange of expertise.
The two sides discussed the completion of the integration process in the electricity power sector through linking Jordanian and Palestinian networks via the Arab electricity linkage project.
They also discussed Jordan's intent to import natural gas from Gaza shores as the Kingdom will continue providing the West Bank city of Jericho with its needs of electricity from the Jordanian Electricity Network.
The MoU included the study of the expansion of the linkage project and the possibilities of building a joint plant to generate electricity using solar energy.
Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, who was present at the meeting, said cooperation between the Palestinian and Jordanian governments stems from the depth of " fraternal historical relations between the two countries".
He added that Jordan has considerable experience in the field of renewable energy, and praised the Kingdom for its continued support to the Palestinian issue.
