EU congratulates Alexis Tsipras on his appointment as PM of Greece

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) President of the European Council Donald Tusk Monday congratulated Alexis Tsipras on his appointment as Prime Minister of Greece.

"The European Union has stood by Greece from the first day of the crisis and is committed to continue to support the country in its efforts to put its economy on a sustainable path" he said in a statement.

"I look forward to working closely together with the new Prime Minister of Greece, and I look forward to welcoming him at the informal meeting of EU Heads of State or Government in Brussels on 12 February," he added. Earlier in Athens today, the leader of Greece's far-left Syriza party, Alexis Tsipras, was sworn in as prime minister and is set to lead an anti-austerity coalition government.
