Three Saudis named as Arar suicide attackers


(MENAFN- Arab News) The Interior Ministry has released the names of three of the four men involved in Monday's suicide attack on a post close to the Iraqi border with investigations continuing into the identity of the fourth man.

The three men are Saudi citizens Mamdouh Nasha' Awad Al-Mateiri who blew himself up at the site; Abdul Rahman Sa'eed Sa'eed Al-Shamrani; and Abdullah Jeries Abdullah Al-Shamri said Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki the ministry's spokesman on Friday.

He also said that the ministry is trying to identify the fourth assailant who blew himself up in the attack.

He said security forces have arrested seven people three Saudi nationals and four Syrians in connection with Monday's attack after raids on two locations in Arar.

Al-Turki said the security forces found four explosives belts six hand grenades two Kalashnikov guns and ammunition three 9-mm pistols and two silencers at the sites.

There was also a total of SR60000 in cash in various currencies consisting of 5400 Iraqi dinars 5000 Syrian pounds and $1800.

Several phones and GPS devices were also found.

Al-Turki said the ministry was doing everything it can to defend the Kingdom against those trying to disrupt its security.

He praised citizens and residents for the serious manner in which they responded to the attacks.

The attacks took place in Al-Suwaif district near Arar after an exchange of fire between security officers and four infiltrators.

The attackers and three Saudi Border Guard officers were killed.
