Saudi- MTTS JRTC and STC bag titles in ALBAIK Tennis Challenge


(MENAFN- Arab News) MTTS-RSTP bagged the Ladies Division category LMX crown after it defeated SCTC 2-1 in the final while SCTC reigned supreme in the HMX category following an identical 2-1 victory against ABTC-Taif.

In the Men's Division HMX category MTTS-RSTP prevailled as it demolished JRTC in straight sets 3-0. In the B1 category it was JRTC's turn to lift the championship trophy after winning via points over SOFTC-AWW at 2-1 then JRTC also took the LMX category crown after beating ABTC via points at 2-2 as the 6th ALBAIK Tennis Challenge 2014 closed out several of the category championships of the tournament.

In the Ladies Division Modern Times Technical Systems (MTTS) sponsored RSTP Ladies proved their mettle after they took the crown in the LMX category. Mariel and Ava took the first set after beating Saudia City Tennis Club's Ghie and Aileen at 8-1. SCTC then countered in the second set as Jeah and Hazel out-dueled Raquel and Khristina for 8-4 win that levelled the match at 1-1. In the third set it was Amor Idjao and Bing who made sure that MTTS would claim the championship as they pummeled Radz and Salima 8-0.

In the other ladies finals Saudia City Tennis Club brought home the trophy after subduing ABTC-Taif 2-1. Hazel and Nymfa Sakay took the first set 8-5 to draw first blood for SCTC. But Cris and Dodie Villanueva was not to be side-stepped as the duo defeated Malou and Aileen 8-6 to put ABTC at 1-1. It was the tandem of Tatah Egil-Martinez and Sheila Harris' 8-3 win against Lovely and Devine that sealed the match 2-1 and the well-deserved championship for SCTC.

Jeddah Ranao Tennis Club (JRTC) took home two championships. First was the category B1 title where they beat SOFTC-AWW in a see-saw battle up to the last set. First set was taken by JRTC as Sammy and Norodeen crushed Cromwell and Ely with an 8-4 set. In the second set SOFTC-AWW countered as Loi Escabusa and Fred Masangkay cruised to an 8-5 win against Tongko and Barra to level the score at 1-1. Third set belonged to JRTC's Maarouf and Alimbsar Umpa as they defeated Marlon and Pablo 8-6 to give the lead to JRTC at 2-1 and a 3-point buffer. Fourth set play was won by JRTC as Noor and Jimmy put the score to 6-4 against Sev and Alex enough points to secure the championship for the team.

The second championship title in JRTC's bag was the LMX category which they won over ABTC again via points. JRTC lost the first set as Norodeen and Rash bowed to Egay and Lito at 4-8. In the second set Jimmy and Suhaimi won the tie-breaker 8-7 against a fighting Nilo Borata and Edward to tie the score at 1-1. In the third set Tuffs and Amer lost out 6-8 to Gilbert and Ariel which placed JRTC at a precarious score of 1-2 and a 5-point deficit. But JRTC was not to be denied as Raj and Aliisa took up the cudgels to win the set by crushing Ramil and Podin 8-0 to level the score at 2-2 and win 26-23 on points.

In the HMX category of the Men's Division Modern Times Technical Systems (MTTS) swept the opposition with a blitzkrieg straight sets win against Jeddah Ranao Tennis Club (JRTC). Winning the first set was the tandem of Francis Idjao and Kits who scored 8-5 against Maarouf and Lantong followed by Bok Gregorio and Abodi Khosa's second set 8-6 victory against Alama and Alan. Closing out the match in the third set was the duo of Ariel and Delson who defeated Alama and Jun Q. at 8-5 to give MTTS-RSTP the coveted HMX championship trophy much to the delight of team Manager Rhino 'Omar' Endriga of MTTS.

Organized by the Association of Tennis Clubs in Jeddah (ASTEC) under the helm of its chairman Francis Idjao Jr. and Tournament Director Tonton Pana this 27th ASTEC team tennis tournament being played at the Trio Ranch Country Club tennis courts is presented in partnership with ALBAIK Food Systems Co.
