Saudi- Bridge on Palestine Street opens
(MENAFN- Arab News) The long-awaited bridge project on Palestine Street at the intersection of Dallah and Prince Miteb Street (Arbaeen) that links Palestine Street with the Makkah highway was opened for vehicular traffic on Sunday.
The news of the inauguration by Jeddah Mayor Hani Abu Ras went viral on social media and twitter while motorists were overjoyed at the opening of the bridge which will now relieve the traffic congestion on this vital heart-line of city where people had to wait for hours to reach the Makkah highway.
With a total length of 2400 meters and 25 meters wide it is the longest bridge to have been built in Jeddah according to the Jeddah Municipality. The municipality confirmed that the remaining work on the bridge will be completed very soon.
The Palestine bridge project is the second project on Palestine Street. The first one was a bridge and tunnel junction at Prince Majed Street (Sabeen) constructed nearly two years ago. Other projects under construction are the 1400 meter long bridge at the intersection of King Abdulaziz Road with Palestine Street and Alhamra Street. The tunnel will ease traffic on the King's road and Palestine Street.
The Jeddah mayor said that the municipality is doing its best to alleviate the traffic problems of the residents and visitors of Jeddah with the implementation of different projects of bridges and tunnels.
He said at the opening that the completion of two other bridges namely at the intersection of King Fahd Road and Hera Street (white horse roundabout) and the other at the intersection of Madinah Road and Halima Sadiya Street will further ease traffic movement in the city.
