Volvo starts producing XC60 in China
(MENAFN) Volvo Car Group said it had started producing its best-selling XC60 crossover at its Chengdu plant in China, in a move aims at supplying locally-produced cars in China, The Peninsula Qatar reported.
The newly planned production would add up 500 new manufacturing jobs at is plant, which is located in central China, where it currently makes the S60L model, the Swedish giant said in a statement.
Strong growth in China has helped Volvo post 16 straight months of rising sales though sluggish performance in the US, once its biggest market but now eclipsed by China, remains a headache.
Volvo currently aims to double its annual sales to 800,000 units by the year 2020 and stake out a claim in the market, which is dominated by rivals Daimler's Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
