Bangladeshi workers burn to death
(MENAFN- Arab News) Two Bangladeshi workers were killed in a fire that engulfed a factory in the Sulay district in the capital said M. Mizanur Rahman a spokesman at the Bangladesh Embassy.
The massive fire possibly caused by a short circuit took place late Wednesday night.
'The deceased have been identified as Rabiul Islam and Iqbal Hossain' said Rahman adding that the two workers were sleeping at their workplace when the fire broke out.
He said a postmortem on the bodies would be conducted on Friday before the embassy proceeds to claim death compensation.
He said Riyadh police is also investigating the incident. He pointed out that the bodies of the workers are being kept at the local Somaishi Hospital.
The workers who hail from Muradnagar Upzila in Bangladesh have been working at the factory for several years. The incident has shocked the Bangladesh community in Riyadh where several workers have been killed in fire-related incidents.
Nine Bangladeshis and two Indians were killed in one fire incident at a furniture workshop in Riyadh early this year. In August this year a massive fire ripped through a restaurant in Riyadh's Olaya district causing huge property losses.
The restaurant building was evacuated at the time while firefighters from the Civil Defense and Red Crescent contained the huge blaze engulfing the eatery.
Saudi Arabia is home to over 1.3 million Bangladeshi workers.
