Ukraine seeks loan to repay debts

(MENAFN) Ukrainian Finance Minister said that his country hopes to resume talks with international lenders as soon as possible in order to help repaying Ukraine's foreign debts, Xinhua reported. "Our task is to borrow at least 9 billion U.S. dollars on foreign markets to ease the pressure on the country's foreign exchange reserves," the minister told the parliament. The minister promised that his country's government will fulfil all of the debt obligations, despite the fact that the state's treasury is empty and the economy is deteriorating due to the unstable political situation. In a bid to keep the economy afloat, the government is negotiating a loan between USD14 and 18 billion from the International Monetary Fund.
