Saudi student earns patent

(MENAFN- Arab News) A Saudi student on scholarship recently joined a list of Saudi students with patents in their names. Abdul Aziz Al-Malik began his research in 2009 to develop genes that target immune cells in the body at Manchester University in the UK. "The research objective is to target the molecular compound hyaluronan, which has receptors on the surfaces of immune cells," Al-Malik told local media, explaining that these carriers might help the body develop more effective antibodies in the future. The study noted that the receptive responsible for acknowledging the carriers is a protein agent CD44, which has been introduced for the first time ever. Al-Malik explained that the study is a part of his Ph.D. and was published in the scientific magazine Biomaterials.
