UAE- Cars gutted in Sharjah scrap yard fire on Tuesday morning

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A massive fire broke out in a scrap yard containing auto parts in Sharjah's industrial area no. 10 at 4.23am on Tuesday. All the materials kept in the yard were gutted in the blaze, which triggered a pall of thick smoke causing panic among motorists and tenants of nearby residential areas. No loss of life was reported in the incident.

Firefighters from Muwailih, Samnan swung into action and doused the fire in less than an hour, while preventing the flames from spreading to other commercial establishments.

The prompt response by the firefighters helped in controlling the raging flames and smoke in a short time, pointed out Brig. Sami Al Naqbi, director-general of Sharjah Civil Defence.

He said that the civil defence, in coordination with the safety department concerned, is carrying out an inspection campaign targeting the scrap businesses in the industrial area to ensure they follow the prescribed safety rules and regulations.

The authorities will show no tolerance towards the violators who ignore the safety procedures and cause hazard.

He urged the establishments operating in Sharjah industrial areas to implement the fire safety regulations and ensure that materials in warehouses and scrap shops are stored safely.
