Brown; Photo: Roy Cox Media RICHMOND, Va. - Feb. 26, 2019 - PRLog -- Savannah native, Hollis Celeste Brown has been named Miss Black Virginia USA 2019 . In the fall, held in Washington, DC, she will compete in the national pageant, a weeklong event where she will compete against 49 other women across the United States and judged in Evening Gown, On-Stage Interview, Talent and Personal Fitness. The week will culminate with the crowning of Miss Black USA .
A native of Savannah, Georgia, Hollis is a graduate of Savannah Arts Academy where she majored in dance and was active in numerous civic organizations including Savannah Youth Council and Chatham County Youth Commission, local modeling events, and the Maxine Patterson School of Dance.
"I am excited to represent the state of Virginia and use this opportunity to discuss my platform for this year, Grow & Glo, (G)enuinely (L)oving (O)urselves, which focuses on helping domestic violence and sexual assault victims GROW out of toxic situations and GLO into acknowledging their worth and full potential. I hope to help make the process easier for victims and create a safe place so that more people will seek the help they need to fully heal by informing the community of resources on how to effectively comfort someone," says Hollis.
Hollis attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) where she majored in Marketing. While at Virginia Tech, she was an active member of VT Prism, a boutique, student-led marketing agency and was crowned Miss Black & Gold. Hollis works in experiential and sports marketing.

The non-profit organization was founded in 1986 seeking to provide educational opportunities to outstanding young African American women and to develop the whole woman, mind, body, and spirit.
