Windies win series against Bangladesh

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The West Indies won the first cricket Test against Bangladesh inside three days. Same with the second Test on Saturday.

Despite the West Indies being bowled out after lunch for 129 in its second innings, setting Bangladesh 335 and nearly eight sessions to win, the visitors crumbled away to be all out for 168 in their second innings a few overs before scheduled stumps.

Fast bowler Jason Holder spearheaded the West Indies with career-best match figures of 11-103. The captain took 5-44 in the first innings and 6-59 in the second.

Only Bangladesh counterpart Shakib Al Hasan found any grit, top-scoring with 54.

Tamim Iqbal was trapped plumb by Holder in the third over before he scored. The other opener, Liton Das, hit Holder for four boundaries in one over, but fell to a poor swipe at Keemo Paul, edging to gully.

Mominul Haque was lbw to Roston Chase for 15, and tea was taken immediately at 52-3.

Soon after, Mahmudullah went after Chase only to chip to midwicket, where Shai Hope took an overhead catch. Mahmudullah made 4.

Holder took out Mushfiqur Rahim (31) and Nurul Hasan (0) in consecutive deliveries, and claimed the last three wickets, interrupted only by teammate Shannon Gabriel grabbing one.

Shakib defied the West Indies for 80 balls for his 23rd half-century until he lost his leg stump to Holder.

Shakib was just as good with the ball in the first part of the day, as West Indies resumed its second innings on 19-1 overnight.

The Bangladesh captain grabbed the first three wickets; Devon Smith and Paul were stumped, and Kieran Powell out lbw.

Taijul Islam, Abu Jayed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz chipped in with wickets before Shakib returned to finish off the tail, as the West Indies was all out for 129, its lowest total at home against the Bangladeshis.

But if the bowlers gave Bangladesh some hope, it quickly evaporated once they started batting. Their 168 was their highest score in the series.

The first of three one-day internationals begin next Sunday.
