UN welcomes Damascus request to provide aid for families S. Syria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, July 9 (KUNA) -- UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian coordinator in Syria Ali Zaatari welcomed Monday the Damascus government's request for UN to provide aid for thousands of families in rural areas in southern Syria.
The UN reiterates readiness to expand its humanitarian missions in Syria, and urges all conflicting parties to give access to relief workers and protect those in need, UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq told the daily press briefing.
Zaatari said the humanitarian aid convoys would be dispatched to people in Daraa, Suwaidaa and Quneitera because they experienced dire living conditions caused by the conflict in southern Syria.
Armed groups in southern Syria said they reached a ceasefire agreement with Russian forces, and would hand over their heavy weapons in Daraa in coming days. (end) asf.bs
