Iraq: 3 militants die in military air attacks


(MENAFN) Provincial security sources declared that three Islamic State (IS) militants have died in an air attack on an IS hideout in Iraq's eastern province of Diyala.

Lt. Gen. Mezhir al-Azzawi, commander of the security forces responsible for military operations in Diyala confirmed that police and military forces, supported by helicopter gunships, have carried out attacks on an IS hideout in Himreen area, killing three IS militants after a battle.

A police officer has died in a different case as another two were injured when IS militants ambushed a security checkpoint at Susa area east of the provincial capital Baquba, nearly 65 km northeast of Baghdad, according to Maj. Alaa al-Saadi, from Diyala Operations Command.

Police announced earlier that an officer was gunned down by a sniper at a checkpoint near Baquba, while IS militants reportedly launched attacks on a village in the northern part of nearby Salahudin Province in the early morning, leaving one villager dead, another abducted, and three injured.
