Iraq: gunmen abduct two Filipinas
(MENAFN) A provincial security source declared that two Filipino women are feared to be abducted in Iraq's eastern province of Diyala while going through the main road linking Kirkuk to the capital Baghdad.
Lt. Gen. Mezhir al-Azzawi, commander of the security forces responsible for military operations in Diyala confirmed that the armed attackers abducted two Filipino women from a taxi after they forced him to stop in al-Udheim area, around 60 km north of the provincial capital Baquba.
Azzawi added that the security forces are questioning the driver of the taxi as probes into the case were launched.
The incident took place three days after a mass offensive was carried out by security forces, supported by warplanes and helicopter gunships, to tackle extremist militants in the unrest area in the provinces of Diyala and Salahudin.
