Qatar basketball team prepare for FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar's basketball team will hold training sessions from August 2 to 13 in Serbia in preparation for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup Championship 2019 scheduled in China.
Qatar cruised their way to the second round of Asian Zone qualification for the FIBA Basketball World Cup with a 84-79 win over Iraq in group D clash.
The team's training programme in Serbia also comes in the light of its preparation for the upcoming 2018 Asian Games scheduled in Indonesia.
Qatar football team seeded in pot two for Asian Games
The Qatar under 23 national football team were placed in the No 2 seed pot ahead of the draw for the upcoming Asian Games (ASIAD), the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) announced.
Joining Qatar in the No 2 pot are China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Oman, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan and Thailand.
The No 1 seeded pot consists of Indonesia, Japan, Syria, the Republic of Korea, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Iraq. The No 3 seed pot includes Malaysia, Laos, Jordan, Yemen, Vietnam, Bangladesh, the Philippines and Hong Kong.
Nepal, India, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Tajikistan, Singapore, Myanmar and Palestine are in group four. A total of 32 men's football teams have registered to compete in the Asian Games. The teams will be divided into eight groups, with the two best teams from each group progressing to the knockout round.
Qatar handball team to play four practice matches
Qatar handball team will play two matches with Iran at the end of this month to prepare for the 18th Asian Games to be held in Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.
The Qatari team will also play two qualifying matches with Portugal's Lisbon team early next month before departing for the Asian Games.
Qatar won gold in the last edition of the Asian Games in Incheon in 2014. They also won the 18th Asian Men's Championship in Suwon, South Korea, early this year, qualifying for the World Championships in Germany and Denmark next year 2019.
