Iraq security forces commence crackdown operation on IS militants


(MENAFN) The Iraqi army announced security forces to have commenced on Wednesday a crackdown operation on Islamic State (IS) militants within rugged area in the provinces of Diyala and Salahudin.

A statement by the media office of the Joint Operations Command (JOC) unveiled a joint force from the Iraqi army, police and paramilitary Hashd Shaabi brigades to have advanced in huge area in east of Diyala-Kirkuk road, which passed through Diyala and Salahudin provinces.

The statement declared the forces to have cleared large part of the area, diminishing nine IS bases and a booby-trapped vehicle, causing the death of an IS militant and arrest of nine suspects.

The troops were also confirmed to have unveiled an IS medical center as well as a base for training the extremist militants.
