Newly built QU Health Centre ready to be handed over to MoPH

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) yesterday announced that it has completed the construction of the Qatar University (QU) Health Centre and started the process of its handover to the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH). This is in line with the government's plans regarding the development of the country's health sector, Ashghal has said.
The new health centre is the fourth one to be delivered since the economic blockade was imposed on Qatar on June 5, 2017. Accomplishment of the Qatar University Health Centre, located to the south of QU in Duhail, marks the conclusion of a package of four healthcare projects. These are Muaither, Al Wajbah, Al Waab and QU health centres.
Project engineer Ahmed Salah yesterday told a group of journalists during a visit to the new centre that the facility is one of the best of its kind in Qatar. Constructed at a cost of QR150mn, the QU Health Centre is spread over a built-up area of more than 23,300sq m and comprises four-level main building with a two-level basement designed as a car parking facility as well as ground and upper levels dedicated to clinics, laboratories, administrative offices and other annexes.
The parking facility is the largest of its kind among the country's health centres, capable of accommodating 511 cars at a time. The centre consists of 36 clinics, of which 22 are for general check-up, eight for dentistry, two for maternity and two for pre-marriage tests along with other medical specialised services, including emergency and physiotherapy that comprises a lounge, sports hall, in addition to a meeting hall, a library, a lab, a radiology facility and a pharmacy.
The centre has been designed to provide comfort to visitors as the state-of-the-art complex has four main entrances, one of them meant exclusively for ambulances and emergencies, as well as two mosques for men and women. Considering the growing requirements of special needs people, it has been ensured that such facilities as signage messaging with illustrations and Braille writing styles, comfortable toilets, wide walkways for easy movement, auto-doors, and reception desks with convenient height are in place at the complex.
Ashghal has also taken into consideration the requirements of special needs people, having provided signage with illustrations and in Braille, comfortable toilets, wide walkways for easy movement, auto-doors and reception desks with a convenient height besides car parking spaces close to the main entrances and ramps in place of steps.
Speaking to journalists, Saleh said the project was built by adhering to local and international specifications and standards, and its completion was achieved in 3mn man-hours without lost time injury. 'Ashghal has implemented three accredited designs, based on the demography of Qatar:
Type A has a few clinics for less populated areas such as the Al Karana and Leghwiriya health centres, while Type B is bigger and and designed for community health, including the Al Waab and Qatar University health centres. Type C is the biggest category and intended for health and wellness as well as featuring rehabilitation and sport services like those in Al Wajbah and Muaither, said Salah.
'The Qatar University Health Centre, besides the health centres of Muaither, Al Wajbah and Al Waab, is the fourth clinic delivered since the start of the unfair blockade on Qatar. The health projects have not been affected by the siege and Ashghal has been able to accomplish the works in harmony with the criteria submitted by the Ministry of Public Health, he added.
The new centre in Qatar University also features criteria set by the Global Sustainability Assessment System. Operational and architectural factors were taken into consideration to accomplish a 3-star environmental level in terms of energy saving and environment preservation.
