Morocco: officials review latest developments, protests

(MENAFN) On Friday, Morocco's governing coalition partners had an emergency meeting at the house of Prime Minister Saad Eddine El-Othmani to review the latest developments in the country.

According to Almaghribtoday.net, these included the lengthy prison sentences given to Al-Reef detainees, the 3-year-sentence given to journalist Hameed Al-Mahdawi and other issues which have emerged following the unprecedented number of protests across the country.

Moroccans protested on Thursday, calling for the release of all civil activists from prison and the annulment of their sentences.

Activists posted pictures and videos online showing the demonstrations in Al-Hoceima and other cities, including Rabat and Casablanca.
