Workshop on strategy to combat desertification begins today


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Ministry of Municipality and Environment will begin today a workshop on the preparation of the national strategy to combat desertification.
The workshop will be attended by the ministry's assistant undersecretary for environment affairs Ahmed Mohammed al-Sada, an expert from the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, and several experts in this field in addition to officials in the ministry.
The three-day workshop will feature an awareness lecture on the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, projects of rehabilitation of vegetation cover in Qatar and water resources in Qatar.
It will also focus on work on the data required for the seventh National Report on Combating Desertification, method of writing national reports on combating desertification and the standards and plan of action of the national strategy to combat desertification. (QNA)

Customs attends Mena meeting

Qatar's General Authority of Customs (GAC) took part in the 48th regional meeting of directors general of customs on North of Africa, Near and Middle East (Mena) region. GAC also participated in the 132nd session of the Customs Cooperation Council. The meetings were held in Brussels.
Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Jamal, chairman, General Authority of Customs, headed the Qatar's delegation to the meetings.
The 48th regional meeting of directors general of customs on Mena region discussed many issues related to customs work, mainly the results of the 79th session of the General Policy Committee of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), the application of the Arab Union of Customs Executives to join the WCO in addition to the results of the second meeting of the working group on the use of additional languages and the report of the regional activities of the capacity building programme.
The 132nd session of the Customs Co-operation Council dealt with the reports of technical committees on rules of origin, customs valuation, the Harmonised System Committee and tax customs cooperation, in addition to discussing a study on the use of additional languages in the WCO. (QNA)
