
Kuwait- Finance Minister arrives in Vienna to partake in OFID meeting
VIENNA, June 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Finance Minister Nayef Al-Hajraf arrived in Vienna Wednesday evening to partake in the 39th ministerial meeting of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), to kick off Thursday.
Upon his arrival, the minister told KUNA that Kuwait was an active member at the OFID and keen on effectively contributing to the fund's ministerial meeting.
He pointed out that the meeting's agenda was full of activities mainly the election of a successor to the outgoing director general Suleiman Al-Harbish, a Kuwaiti national.
The OFID's top post was contested by three candidates from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Iran and Indonesia, he stated.
The OFID is the development finance institution established by the Member States of OPEC in 1976 as a channel of aid to the developing countries. OFID works in cooperation with developing country partners and the international donor community to stimulate economic growth and alleviate poverty in all disadvantaged regions of the world.
