US leaves UN Human Rights Council

(MENAFN) The US was declared to have pulled out of the UN Human Rights Council in the latest withdrawal by the trump administration from an international institution.

The council was not able to implement he "major, dramatic and systematic changes" of which the US required, as explained US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Nikki Haley.

During a joint press conference with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Haley noted "as we said we would do a year ago, if we did not see any progress, the United State is officially withdrawing from the UN Human Rights Council."

She also criticized the council, saying it was being "a protector of human rights abusers and a cesspool of political bias."
