KUWAIT CITY, June 19: The total value of the variation orders issued for 15 projects belonging to Ministry of Public Works in the last five years reached KD 700 million, reports Al-Anba daily quoting reliable sources. They explained that these projects include Jaber Al- Ahmed Hospital, headquarters of Ministry of Education, headquarters of Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, and four projects concerning roads, private schools and development of First Ring Road.

The variation orders are part of the contracts signed by Ministry of Public Works with local and international companies and contractors. The variation orders were issued based on requests from the beneficiary parties, due to the delay in the projects or due to errors committed by the executing body.

The sources revealed that Ministry of Finance has provided the relevant budget to Ministry of Public Works, adding that Ministry of Public Works cannot dismiss the contractors who delay the implementation of the projects in order to avoid further delays which will result in huge costs for the ministry. They said the ministry restored a large amount from delayed contracts (about KD 120 million) especially for the projects of Jaber Al-Ahmed Hospital and headquarters of Ministry of Education.

Meanwhile, the US Navy has awarded a potential contract valued at $179 million for the supply of FH12K System Configurations kit for the F/A- 18E/F Super Hornet Fleet of the Kuwaiti Air Force to Boeing Company, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting news published on gov.con.com.
