Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Qatar launched

DOHA: The Embassy of Sweden in Qatar announced yesterday the official launch of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Qatar (SCCQ). The launch coincided with an internal Swedish & Business Community celebration of the National Day of Sweden on June 6, 2018.

The Chamber was formally established the day before on June 5, at its first General Assembly. It was at an historic majlies, in the bilateral relations between Qatar and Sweden, on June 5, hosted by Abdulla Albinali, Chairman of QTIC and the representative of the Swedish steel company SSAB, that the first General Assembly was held and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Qatar was born.

The Swedish Chamber will now build upon the steadily growing business and investment ties between Qatar and Sweden. The Chamber represents the commitment to a long-term investment in Qatar's future development with Sweden as a strong and valued partner.

The SCCQ Board of Directors representing a very good selection of the strong Swedish companies active in Qatar. The Swedish Chamber of Commerce has chosen seven individuals, who will serve as the Board of Directors for the Swedish Chamber, which include Gus Abboud, Manging Director, ABB Qatar; Mattias Nordfeldt, Commercial Officer, Embassy of Sweden in Doha; Shadi Sayed, Country Director Qatar, Ericsson; Daniel Nordberg, General Manger, Gulf Agency Company/GAC; Johan Ahlberg, Country Director Qatar, SAAB; Abdulla Albinali, Chairman, QTIC, Representing SSAB; and Faisal Sharif, Managing Director, Domasco, Representing Volvo Cars, Volvo Trucks and Buses.

Ambassador of Sweden Ewa Polano, said: 'In 2015 the new government in Sweden presented for the first time an Export Strategy. The government also announced thereby that 26 countries in the world shall be given extra focus and attention from the government in order to nurture trade and investment relations with these countries during the period 2015-2020. I was very glad to see that our newly opened embassy in Doha had led my government to include Qatar in these 26 countries.

She said: 'Further on, the Export Strategy requested all Swedish Ambassadors around the world to establish in each country a Team Sweden . It was an honor to launch in Doha in February 2016 'TTeam Sweden in Qatar.

Team Sweden shall in each country include active Sweden promotion organizations.

'In Qatar we included Business Sweden: Swedish Trade & Invest Council and the Alumni Sweden network in Qatar (graduates from Swedish universities active in key positions in Qatar) together with the Embassy, added Ambassador Polano.
'I have been glad to chair our Team Sweden here in Doha, but we missed one important component: a Swedish Chamber of Commerce and now we have launched it. Thereby, Team Sweden In Qatar is complete.
Polano said that the Swedish Chamber of Commerce will of course include as many members as possible from the Swedish Business Community. However, now the important process also starts to approach strong, key business partners in Qatar, who would also like to become members or associates.
