Doha: The Tunisian city of Tabarka will host the training camp for Qatari referees in preparation for the 2018/2019 football season between July 13 and 30.

The external training camp will be preceded by a preliminary preparation period in Doha starting on the third day of Eid al-Fitr and lasting up to four weeks, followed directly by physical tests with the participation of 45 referees who will be selected for the final list of the external camp.

Director of the Qatar Football Association's Arbitration Department Naji Al Juwaini said that the city of Tabarka, which hosted the referees camp in the last season, is a very suitable place for the camp and has all the facilities and equipment needed by referees to prepare for the new season especially since it has the stadiums and players who can help in theseexercises.

Al Juwaini stressed that the referees should overcome the physical tests that they will undergo at the end of the local preparation period in Doha, adding that success in them will be a prerequisite for joining the Tunisia camp. He also said that the referees failed in those tests will be excluded and that those who didn't attend local preparation period in Doha will be excluded as well.

The Director of the QFA's Arbitration Department said that the preparation period this season was shortened due to the early start of the current edition of the QNB Stars League and because referees need to rest after a long season, pointing out that the referees underwent tests after the end of the season and have all passed those tests successfully.

Al Juwaini confirmed the completion of the technical readiness to use Video assistant referee (VAR) technology next season, stressing that the final decision will be issued by the QFA in this regard, noting that the Arbitration Department has received considerable support from the QFA President for the application of VAR technology. If the technology is adopted, new referees will be required, he said.
