FM meets EU foreign policy chief, 1st add
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Safadi thanked the European Union for its continuous support to Jordan, which is committed to achieving economic reforms that increase the productivity of the national economy and its effectiveness in creating job opportunities and enhancing its investment attractiveness.
The foreign minister valued Mogherini's supportive stances toward the Kingdom and its role and stressed the importance of the bloc's positions in support of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Safadi and Mogherini agreed on the need to unify efforts to break the deadlock in the peace process and move toward a two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders as the only way to end the conflict.
Mogherini reiterated the EU's support for a two-state solution as the only solution to the conflict and stressed the bloc's position on Jerusalem as the capital of the two states.
The foreign minister and the EU foreign policy chief emphasized the importance of the continued support for the International Agency for Relief and Works of Refugees (UNRWA).
Mogherini said "the European Union, as the largest donor to UNRWA, seeks the continuation of its operations to assist Palestinian refugees," calling on donor countries to increase their contributions to UNRWA or maintain their level of contributions at the very least.
Safadi and Mogherini agreed on the need to continue providing international assistance to Syrian refugees and their host countries, as Safadi warned of the consequences of diminishing or stopping aid, which would affect the ability of host countries to provide vital services to refugees.
