UAE- RAK police issue 7,438 tickets during Ramadan


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Ras Al Khaimah police, all set to secure every nook and corner of the emirate, has issued 7,438 tickets against reckless drivers in the first 13 days of the holy month of Ramadan.

Brigadier Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Humaidi, director general of the central operations department, RAK Police, said the tickets issued for an array of traffic violations. "On top of these is speeding."

The competent traffic officers have also nabbed 11 drivers for driving without license, he added.

"As per law, a jail term of not more than three months and a fine of not more than Dh6,000 or either shall be slapped on anyone who drives a car without being licensed."

"This is a crime, and shall be curbed with zero tolerance," he warned. "All erring drivers shall be referred to the public prosecution for penalty."

Brig Humaidi said they have also impounded 30 vehicles for being involved in serious traffic violations. "Traffic rules and regulations are made for people's safety."

The RAK police have, meanwhile, distributed lots of brochures in different languages, including Arabic, English and Urdu, he pointed out. "These are meant to develop people's traffic awareness."

A number of lectures have also been delivered to promote traffic culture in collaboration with all government and local departments, he underlined. "The RAK police are all set to ensure public safety and security."
