Tunisian Interior Minister fired following death of migrants


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TUNIS, June 6 (KUNA) -- Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed on Wednesday fired Interior Minister Lotfi Brahem in the wake of the sinking of an illegal migration boat, which led to the deaths of several people.
Chahed sacked Brahem from the post and assigned Minister of Justice Ghazi Jeribi to undertake the misison, said a government statement.
The move came in the wake of the capsizing of a boat carrying dozens of illegal migrants off the coast of Sfax city in central Tunis on Sunday.
The Tunisian authorities managed to rescue 68 people, however they retrieved 66 bodies. Earlier today, Brahem fired 10 security officials over the incident of the boat.
Chahed visited the city on Tuesday and pledged to hold all officials responsible for the sinking of the boat. (end) khs.hm
