Army chief says military should remain on alert

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN — Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat on Tuesday at the Royal Military College met with top brass in the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), whose ranks are battalion commanders and higher.

Freihat conveyed His Majesty King Abdullah's greetings to them and his pride in their units and personnel who 'safeguard the homeland and ensure peace and security for the country', the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The army chief highlighted the importance for the JAF to stay on full alert, stressing that surrounding circumstances and challenges, along with internal conditions, require more caution and expecting all possibilities.

"We have to be aware that our country is targeted, which requires all to stand in the face of those who want to tamper with Jordan's security and stability," Freihat said, adding that Jordan cannot be isolated from international events, especially economic developments.

He noted that the Kingdom's relations with other countries provided the JAF with an opportunity to build partnerships with various armies of the world, which have positively reflected on the army in terms of training, armament and reputation.

The general also stressed the importance of acquainting soldiers, through their supervising officers, with what is happening inside and outside the Kingdom, so as to be fully aware of these developments.

Freihat highlighted the significance for commanders to place as much interest as possible in their personnel and acquaint them with realities, lest they should be victims of rumours circulated by some media outlets that seek to mislead the public and hide facts.

He also called on commanders to meet all the needs of their personnel at the military, social, psychological and moral levels, urging them to adopt self-reliance to realise achievements and to manage resources rationally.
