(MENAFN) On Monday, Arsal's mayor stated that thousands of Syrian refugees in the northeastern town have registered their names to return back to Syria, al-bawaba reported.

Bassel Hujeiri confirmed that a list with the names of 3,000 refugees looking to return back home was finalized.

"The names were registered and finalized around two months ago," Hujeiri said adding that they are still waiting for a final answer over the matter. He noted that those who registered were looking to return to Western Qalamoun areas.

"We presented the list to General Security Chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim," Hujeiri said in a phone call.
