DOHA: Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic Nuran S Niyazaliev (pictured) said yesterday that an agreement between Qatar and Kyrgyzstan for the employment of Kyrgyz citizens in Qatar would be signed this year.

'The draft of the agreement has been finalized between two sides and most likely it will be signed by the end of this year opening more opportunities for Kyrgyz citizens to find employment in Qatar, he said while talking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of an Iftar dinner hosted by him in honour of Kyrgyz citizens living in Qatar.

He said that currently many Kyrgyz citizens were working in Qatar in various departments including Qatar Airways, hotels, malls and other trade centers. 'After the signing of the agreement, we will be able to send other professionals to Qatar like engineers, he added.

The ambassador said that the bilateral cooperation was developing day by day. To a question, he said that the trade volume between two countries was low mainly due to logistic issues as both countries had no direct trade connection but he expressed his hope that those hurdles would be overcome through various means in future.

He said that Qatar Culture Day was marked in Bishkek in 2017 and in 2018 Kyrgyz Cultural Day would be marked in Katara.

Earlier addressing the Kyrgyz community at the Iftar dinner, ambassador Nuran Niyazaliev congratulated his compatriots and wished them a peaceful and blessed Ramadan, noting that it was a cherished time of the community, mostly spent together with family, friends and fellow-citizens.

He said that there were about 500 citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic serving in different sectors of Qatari economy, thus making their own contribution to development and prosperity of Qatar.

The Ambassador also expressed his appreciation to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the government of Qatar for warm hospitality and appropriate working conditions for the Kyrgyz community.

He informed the community that a delegation of Qatar's Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs had visited Bishkek in April 2018 to finalize a draft agreement on the employment of citizens of Kyrgyzstan in Qatar.

'It regulates procedure for the employment of citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic, their recruitment, dispatch, arrival, as well as their work at the territory of the State of Qatar.

Ambassador Nuran Niyazaliev said that Qatar Airways was studying the feasibility of establishing a direct flight between Doha and Bishkek, and if it happened, more Kyrgyz specialists and professionals would be enrolled in Qatar.

'It will contribute also to deepening trade and investment cooperation as well as cultural and touristic relations between the two countries, he added. In this regard, the Ambassador invited Qatari businessmen and travelers to visit Kyrgyzstan, which offered good investment opportunities and beautiful landscapes for tourists.

At the Iftar dinner, the Kyrgyz community also organized a charitable lottery for collecting funds to donate for charity purposes in Kyrgyzstan.
