King, Queen visit southern Jordan Valley region

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, May 30 (Petra) -- Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah on Wednesday visited the southern Jordan Valley region of Ghor Fifa, some 160km south of Amman, and looked firsthand at the living conditions of the local community and projects carried out by civil society institutions.

His Majesty the King ordered the construction and restoration of locals' homes and supplying them with solar power systems to mitigate financial burdens. He also gave his orders to extend support to local projects and initiatives. The King and the Queen dropped by the region's only kindergarten, which offers charge-free services to 42 children. They also visited the Princess Taghreed Institute for Development and Training's wool factory and toured its facilities and looked at work and production stages. The factory employs 19 local women and some of its products access European markets.

His Majesty appreciated efforts exerted by private sector institutions, associations and non-governmental organizations aimed at improving the quality of life and provide employment opportunities to reduce unemployment and poverty.

King Abdullah commended the Arab Potash Company for supporting development projects in the region and co-financing a solar power project for all the 442 houses in the region.

He also praised the efforts of the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature in establishing productive projects that benefited charities in the region.
