OCHA confirms emergency assistance to Yemen on Cyclone Mekunu aftermath


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, May 30 (KUNA) -- UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) confirmed late Tuesday its response to the call from the High Relief Committee in Yemen to provide aid to Yemen's Socotra province, which was affected by Cyclone Mekunu.
In a letter sent to the Minister of Local Administration and Chairman of the Yemeni Higher Relief Committee Abdulraqib Fateh -- which was reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) -- Acting Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, Oki Lutsma, said the office provided urgently 10 tons of relief and therapeutic materials, 1,000 shelter kits, 4,000 hygiene items, and 35 containers of drinking water.
On his part, Fateh stressed the keenness of the Yemeni government to provide support and care for those affected by the cyclone in the affected coastal provinces, and coordination with donors to provide more relief support to the population to alleviate their suffering. (end) mdm.lr
