Algerian Sonatrach eyes Exxon Mobil cooperation on shale gas


(MENAFN) Algeria's Sonatrach was revealed to be targeting Exxon Mobil Corp for partnership on the field of shale gas "and more".

The announcement has been made by the state energy firm's chief executive Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour who had been on a trip in Salah gas field.

The firm was said to be looking into exploring shale gas reservoirs in the depths of the south, however it requires foreign expertise and locals support for its purpose to be met.

The chief executive declared his firm to be planning to increase discoveries to 100 million tonnes of oil equivalent per year.

Another official in the company affirmed "we will also boost reserves to reach 2 million tonnes of oil equivalent."
