Tunisia's tourism up 21.8 percent in major recovery


(MENAFN) Tunisia was revealed to have seen a sharp recovery in its tourism sector, with revenues recording an increase of almost a third in 2018.

Speaking to AFP, Tourism Minister Selma Elloumi Rekik affirmed that "There is a significant improvement," with the main drive being increasing number of tourists from Russia and China.

Compared to last year, Tunisia has witnessed 21.8 percent boost in tourists of whom their number exceeded 2.3 million by May 20, and up 5.7 percent compared to 2010, bouncing back from the 2015 terrorist attack.

The country has also recorded a 31.8 percent year-on-year rise on tourism revenues, reaching USD357 million.
