(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, May 20 (Petra) -- The Lower House's Palestine Committee Sunday valued speech of His Majesty King Abdullah II last Friday at the extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, which was attended by presidents and leaders of the Islamic world.
"His Majesty the King affirms at all local, regional, and international forums that the Palestinian cause and the protection of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem are a top priority, the committee said in a statement.
"The Hashemite custodianship over the holy city of Jerusalem is the "safety valve" for the protection of Islamic and Christian holy sites and is in line with the historic role played by the Hashemites," the statement added.
"At a time when the Arab states were busy with their internal affairs, His Majesty was doing his utmost to protect the holy sites and to direct the Arab and Islamic attention towards supporting the Palestinians and the cause." President of the committee, MP Yahya Saud, said that " the King sent strong messages that Al-Aqsa Mosque is a red line and that Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine." The committee emphasized that Jerusalem is the key to peace and that the entire region will not enjoy peace without a settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, on the basis of international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace initiative.
