Iran has been producing sponge iron for 30 years and is going to produce about 30 million tons in 2019, Asadollah Farshad, Managing Director of the Iranian Ghadir Iron & Steel Co., told Trend.
"Iran has been producing sponge iron for 30 years. Such factories as Khuzestan Steel and Mobarakeh Steel of Isfahan are the most advanced ones; today, with launch of factories in other provinces, Iran produces 23 million tons of sponge iron, and will produce about 30 million tons in 2019," Farshad said.
He believes the situation of Iran's sponge iron production is favorable considering production capacity and the factories added to the production cycle.
"Ghadir Iron & Steel Company has been operating for about eight years already, and each year has been able to produce 800,000 tons of sponge iron," Farshad noted.
He also announced the launch of Gol Gohar iron and steel development units in the near future.
With the launch of Kowsar and Gohar units this year, about 2.5 million tons of sponge iron will be produced by Gol Gohar Company.
