Qatar- Customs seizes 46kg of marijuana at HIA

DOHA: General Authority of customs (GAC) announced that it seized 46 kilograms of marijuana and four tons of illegal chewing tobacco at the 11 customs departments at Hamad International Airport (HIA), Hamad Port, air cargo customs and private airports.

The marijuana amount was seized over seven shipments at HIA and two shipments at the air cargo customs. The smugglers hid the drug in their luggage and in secret pockets designed to carry such material in a way that looks like part of the structure of the bag, other amounts were hidden in food utensils.

At the air cargo customs, two shipments were seized as one of the employees suspected a shipment of fabrics and bed sheets, when rechecked eight kilograms of marijuana was discovered.

The customs employee also suspected a car pillow shipment, where he also found 4.5 kilograms of marijuana as well.

At Hamad Port, four tons of illegal chewing tobacco were found over two shipments.
