Caparanga, Du Toit top the final leg of Qatar MTB league


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The first edition of the Qatar Mountain Bike League came to an end with some fast-paced and action-packed men's MTB XC Eliminator (XCE) and women XC Short Circuit (XCC) points race in Duhail on Friday.
The Men XCE was won by Filipino rider Max Caparanga, the current overall champion in the Elite Category of the Qatar Mountain Bike League, and the Women XCC was won by Tessa Du Toit of South Africa.
The 2017-18 season of the league was a series of seven cross-country mountain bike races which started in September.
The league featured the trails of Al Kheesa, Al Khor, Duhail and Lusail. The league also includes the Al Adaid Desert Challenge and the Umm Jurn 24Hours Mountain Bike Challenge. The Qatar Mountain Bike league was organized in collaboration with Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation (QCTF) and the United Filipino Mountain Bikers Qatar, and was supported by Qatar Chain Reaction, Rayyan Water and Qatar Cyclists Center.
Overall points and ranking system were introduced this season wherein participants from each of the mountain bike races in the league collected points based on their respective category results. Overall league leaders were determined by their accumulated points at the end of the season.
QCTF secretary-general Jamal al-Kuwari thanked the United Filipino Mountain Bikers Qatar for a job well done in organizing these races. He said the Filipino mountain biking community have come a long way and had contributed much with the development and promotion of mountain bike cycling as a competitive sport in Qatar. Al-Kuwari said that QCTF will continue to support the mountain biking sport and is now planning for another mountain bike league for the next season. He also hoped for more participation of Qatari mountain bikers for the next season.
